This is a simple and basic focaccia recipe, you can use this as your base and top with a variety of things! Seasonings, roasted garlic, vegetables, herbs, cheeses etc. This is just the starting ground! I love this bread on its own or paired with some soup. Cut horizontally this bread is PERFECT for a tasty sandwich as well! I love pairing it with a bunch of veggies and pestos for my sandwich! My boyfriend loves it piled high with meats and cheese and then toasted on a sauce pan or panini press.
Either way this bread has so many uses and can be used to make a variety of appetizers. It is just as good dipped in some olive oil, cracked black pepper and salt.
There are two methods to make this dough, Same Day Dough, which inclues the proof and bake in one day. The bread still turns out great! Especially if you are in a pinch, this way is the easiest to get a loaf the same day.
The second is an Overnight Proof, this gives the dough a more airy texture and ferments a little bit longer giving you a slightly different taste and chew.I prefer this method but if I want focaccia later that day, the Same Day Dough works just fine!
Some great toppings combos include:
-shredded or grated parmesan, roasted garlic cloves, flakey salt and fresh black pepper.
-cherry tomatos and basil, drizzled with balsamic glaze after the bake.
-thinly slice green onion, toasted sesame seeds and roasted garlic cloves.
-zatar seasoning, thinly sliced green onions, crumbled feta and cherry tomatoes.
-thinly sliced red onion, cherry tomatoes and roasted garlic cloves.
-caramelized onions, mushrooms and shredded parmesan cheese.
-green olives, black pepper and rosemary.
Truly the possibilities are endless!
This bread is also like I said great for sandwiches or topped like a pizza for an easy weeknight dinner! Now lets get to the recipe!
